Do You Need to Calibrate Your Current & Voltage Transducers?

May 2, 2025

What’s the short answer regarding …  if and when you should calibrate or recertify your Current and Voltage Transducers?

Here are cut-to-the-chase recommendations:

  1. If your measurement device application is related to attaining Energy Star Certification, than you need to recalibrate and recertify your devices every one to two years.

  1. If your application is related to attaining a government, military, or industry standard certification, then you should recalibrate your devices every one to two years.

  1. In applications like energy metering, renewable battery storage for wind and solar, or other programs where money is changing hands, accuracy is critical. In these operations, calibration and recertification should happen every one to two years.

  1. Conversely, where transducers are embedded in electrical panels, in substations, or as part of industrial factory processes, calibration is less critical – even optional.

  1. However, even in these environments if there has been a lightning strike, power surge, or transient incident, we recommend sending your devices out to measure the impact on accuracy induced by the event.

An even better and easier rule of thumb is to talk to an Ohio Semitronics calibration expert.  No one knows more about current and voltage transducer performance, accuracy, or calibration requirements.    Call or Chat with a team member and get the answer you need for your application.
