Electrical Voltage Measurements AC Voltage Transducers-True RMS
Discontinuous (non-sinusoidal) voltage such as those generated by a phase angle fired SCR and zero crossing controllers and pulse wave modulation (PWM) technologies typically require measurements to be taken with a true RMS-measuring transducer.
A true RMS transducer typically samples the incoming voltage at a frequency much higher than the line frequency. Each sample is squared. The number of samples are summed then divided by the number of samples. The square root of that result is taken as the root mean square value. Typical OSI voltage transducers that employ RMS measuring circuitry include the following models:
Three phase, UL-listed. Input frequency range is 48-420 Hz.
Typical Applications
Designed for applications where the measurement of non sinusoidal waveforms is required. May also be used to monitor three single phase circuits where panel mounting space is limited. Common applications include:
Noisy line voltage monitoring
Synthesized voltage waveforms from inverted and SCR controllers

VT7 series voltage transducer produces and output which is directly proportional to input from DC to 10kHz.
VT8 series voltage transducer provides a DC output directly related to the true RMS value of the input over the DC to 10kHz frequency range. Special ranges available upon request.
Typical Applications
Can function as a millivolt DC shunt or a high voltage isolator. Input/output dielectric test of 2500Vac. Applications include:
DC isolation from current shunts
Heating element control in furnaces
General high voltage isolation applications
