Multifunction Electrical Measuring Devices
Multifunction instruments are designed to measure multiple electrical parameters simultaneously. Typically these parameters or "measurands" incude Voltage(s) L-L and L-N, Current on L1, L2 & L3, Power L-N and Total, VA L-N and Total, VARs L-N and Total, Frequency, Power Factor and Energy watthours. Outputs can be analog or combined analog and digital. Displays can be either local or remote depending on the specific device chosen.
Digital signal processing in some multifunction instruments can significantly increase accuracy over a wide range of measurements. Accuracy in the range of ±0.1% for voltage, current, VA, VARS, power and energy is common in today's multifunction transducers. Power display meters that stream serial communication of measured values are popular in most test and measurement applications such as motor and compressor efficiency testing, appliance end-of-line production testing, load bank performance testing and motor drive control research and development.
Popular multifunction transducers available from OSI include the PDM, PTB and DMT.
The PTB (Power Test Board) is designed to measure and provide analog output signals for all parameters of voltage, current and total power in an electrical system. Optional outputs are available for power factor, apparent power and watthours.
The PTB comes standard with 7 (seven) 0-10Vdc analog outputs for voltage, current and power. As options, 0-1mA and 4-20mA outputs are also available.
The electronic circuitry uses solid-state multipliers, RMS converters and amplifiers. The unit requires 115Vac or 230Vac instrument power.
Features
Small Package
High Accuracy
Calibrated with CT’s
Low Cost
Supplied as circuit board only or with a NEMA enclosure (option)
The PDM (Power Display Meter) measures and displays voltage, current, power and energy parameters for single-phase or three-phase systems. Voltages up to 600Vac and currents up to 5Aac can be directly connected to the instrument. CT’s are available in both solid core (best accuracy) or split-core (ease of installation) to extend the current measurement range to 5000A or higher. Local display can report up to twelve different parameters.
Analog outputs are provided by adding one or more D/A-4772 converters.
Serial communications are provided with either an RS-232C, RS-422 or RS-485 interface with simple ASCII protocol.
The DMT-1000 (Modbus) and 1000L (Lonworks) are programmable transducers that can supervise several variables of a poly-phase electrical power system simultaneously. The RS-485 interface enables the user to determine the number of variables to be supervised (up to the maximum available). Provision is made for programming the DMT via the bus with DMT-Config software that is provided with each transducer.
The DMT-1000L conforms to the LONWORK® interoperability guidelines, Ver. 3.0. The measured values are transferred by means of a standard network variable type (SNVT) and are available at the LON interface. The device is programmed using the LONTALK® file transfer protocol.
The DMT -1040, 1024 and 1042 are programmable transducers that can supervise several variables of a poly-phase electrical power system simultaneously. The RS-485 interface enables the user to determine the number of variables to be supervised (up to the maximum available). Provision is made for programming the DMT via the bus with DMT-Config software that is provided with each transducer. MODBUS® is the supported protocol.
