Measuring the AC Voltage of a Drive Motor

Print
July 18, 2017

Recently OSI was asked by a manufacturer of underground mining machinery to help measure the AC voltage of their drive motors. Their standard input specifications were easily achievable along with the need for compactness/ DIN-Rail packaging.

OSI’s solution to this miners request was a commercial, off the shelf, MVT-*****. The MVT family has standard input ranges of 150V, 300V, and 600V with output options of 0-1mAdc, 0-5Vdc, 0-10Vdc, and 4-20mAdc. The accuracy of this family is ±0.25% F.S.

The notable features of the MVT family include its’ ruggedized Polyamide DIN-mount case, slim profile, and field-selectable analog outputs. The MVT also contains recessed terminals for increased safety.

Measuring electrical parameters released by drive motors is important in any application. Sometimes just current needs to be measured, or maybe even just voltage. Sometimes it is a combination of the two and a watt transducer with a sizable frequency range is needed.
